Downpipe with kat 200 CPSI (1.4 Tjet/Multiair)

We often speak about this downpipe so I thought it might be useful if I give my personal experience about it.

The downpipe can be made with 200 cpsi sport catalyst; for the 200 cpsi catalyst we use high quality products to get a good quality monolith. From my experience, for a good electronic engine management you should use a catalyst 200 cpsi also in order to get some exhaust backpressure.

The catalyst is not random chosen and we don’t install the same type of catalyst in every kind of preparation; in fact, when the performance grows up to more than 230 hp is advisable to install a larger diameter catalyst to reduce exhaust backpressure and make a better performance at high rpm.

For t-jet engines that have less than 220 hp the installation of a larger size catalyst gives no benefit; in fact, at low rpm a larger catalyst generates more turbo-lag without giving any advantages at high rpm; so I think that using this downpipe on t-jet engines with less than 220CV is the best options.

Obviously, these recommendations are dictated by my experience, they are just advices and I don´t want to force anybody to do something. I have seen too that if the reprogram of the ECU increase a lot the exhaust gas temperature the efficiency of the kat will be reduced. So, it is better to move it on the central pipe where temperature are lower.

The simple replacement of the original monolith on the original downpipe from one side simplifies the building process, but from the other side would not allow us to enlarge the exit hole on the flange of the downpipe which is just 51. Then we take the decision to use an output flange with internal hole 60 in order to give the possibility of a future upgrade to those who would subsequently replace the pipe after the downpipe and have a bigger diameter exhaust in all points. But if someone doesn´t want to change the rest of exhaust anymore, it´s possible to use a smaller hole flange.

Il downpipe è eseguito con del kat200cpsi con buona qualità del monolita catalizzante. Dall’esperienza acquisita e per una buona gestione elettronica, è consigliabile nei motori Tjet mettere un kat 200cpsi per avere un po’ di contropressioni in scarico utili per una buona gestione della mappatura.

Il kat non è scelto a caso e non viene installato lo stesso monolita per ogni tipo di preparazione infatti al crescere delle prestazioni dell’auto e al superare della soglia dei 220cv è consigliabile installare il kat più grosso di diametro per ridurre ulteriormente le contropressioni in scarico e favorire un miglior allungo agli alti rpm.

Al di sotto di tali prestazioni l’installazione di un kat di dimensioni più grosse non dà nessun beneficio agli alti rpm riducendo la risposta del turbo ai bassi rpm, consiglio quindi il kat di minori dimensioni fino a tale soglia di preparazione (circa 220cv).

Ovviamente questi sono consigli dettati dalla mia esperienza per cui se qualcuno desiderasse montare un kat di maggiori dimensioni su macchina stock non ci sarebbe nessun problema. Per esperienza ho poi visto che se le mappe sono esageratamente spinte con temperature allo scarico molto alte è consigliabile spostare il kat sul centrale pena una riduzione precoce dell’efficienza catalizzante.

La sostituzione del semplice monolita sul downpipe originale se da una parte semplifica la lavorazione, dall’altra non ci avrebbe permesso di allargare il foro di uscita sulla flangia del downpipe che è da 51. Si è quindi fatta la scelta di utilizzare una flangia uscita con foro da 60 interno al fine di dare la possibilità di un futuro upgrade a chi volesse successivamente sostituire lo scarico a valle del downpipe e avere un diametro che in tutti i punti potesse essere maggiorato rispetto all’originale.

Se qualcuno però volesse avere il foro uscita di dimensioni pari all’originale non ci sarebbe nessun problema e verrebbe soddisfatta la sua richiesta.
